Emma D. Lewis
Emma D. Lewis, 75, of Springfield, passed away on Saturday, September 19, 2020 at Memorial Medical Center. She was born October 5, in Boonville, MO, the daughter of Henry and Odessa Dowe Coleman. She married Roy Cornell Lewis on November 26, 1966 and he preceded her in death.
Emma is also preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Pauline V. Perry and Norlene Davis.
Survivors include one daughter, LaDonna Y. Lewis of Springfield; one grandchild JaLandis Lewis-Metts; one sister, Betty C. Johnson of Springfield; one brother, Floyd M. (Yvonne) Coleman of Springfield; one aunt, Marceline Lawson of Kansas City, MO; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and many close friends.
Emma was a resident of Springfield for most of her life and retired from Illinois Bell Telephone Company on December 31, 1994. She was a deeply faithful member of Calvary Missionary Baptist Church where she was the third longest active member there, the third clerk of Calvary, sang in the choir, was an active participant in Calvary’s Sunday school and also served on the Pastor’s Aide Committee. She belonged to Sisters United for Christ and Anna Page Ministry. Emma was a founding board member of Nehemiah Expansion for Affordable Housing and worked there as the office administrator. Emma was also the registrar for Wood River District Baptist Association.
Emma was a lifelong Spartan, always enjoying Southeast High School basketball with her family and friends.
Visitation: 5 – 7 pm, Friday, October 2, 2020 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield. Please wear some red attire in honor of Emma.
Funeral Service: A private family service will be held with Reverend Silas Johnson officiating. Private burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Missionary Baptist Church.
