Emil “DOC” Bredemeyer, 79, of Springfield, died at 5:28 am, Monday, July 14, 2014 at Memorial Medical Center. He was born September 27, 1934 in Springfield, to August F. Walter and Viola H. Treat Bredemeyer. He married Nellie Mae Norlander on July 31, 1993 and she preceded him in death on May 12, 2011.

Survivors include 3 stepdaughters, Diane “Dee” Smith, Carrie Smith and Boony Luparell all of Springfield; two stepsons, Jim (Lauralee) Smith of Petersburg and Kevin Smith of Springfield; twelve grandchildren, Kimberly, Kathleen, Danny, Rebecca, Ricky, Jenifer, Rachel, Michael, Angela, Bailey, Giovanni and Dominic; several great grandchildren; one sister, Herta Ramey of Springfield; two brothers William W. (Vickie) Bredemeyer and Arthur R. (Paige) Bredemeyer both of Springfield and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Viola Ackley, brother, Gene Bredemeyer and grandson, Jimmy Smith V.

DOC was a member of St. Aloysius Church, American Legion and Eagle’s Club. He loved to watch and follow the CUBS. He retired from Sangamon County where he worked as a printer.

Visitation: 2-5 pm, Sunday July 20, 2014 at Staab Funeral Home with a Prayer Service at 2 pm.

Funeral Mass: 11:30 am, Monday, July 21, 2014 at St. Aloysius Church with Monsignor David Lantz officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery, where Sangamon County Inter Veterans Burial Detail and the US Army will conduct military honors.

Memorial contributions may be made to Boys Town Organization.

The Family of Emil “DOC” Bredemeyer, would like to thank all of the doctor’s who attended him and a special thank you to the nurses and staff of Memorial Medical Center’s 2E Oncology Unit, for the attention and kindness they extended to him, during his hospitalization.
