SPRINGFIELD – Elmer Floyd Ron Rocky Rollins, 65, of Springfield died at 7:20 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, 2008, at his home.

He was born Jan. 15, 1943, in Marion, Ind., the son of Rudolph J. and Florence Elizabeth (Tolbert) Rollins. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Rollins, a resident of Springfield since 1977, was a self-employed contractor and also was a karate instructor for 30 years.

He was a member of Second Missionary Baptist Church in Anderson, Ind. He had a life membership in the Professional Karate Commission and in the United States Karate Do-Kai. He was a member of the United States Karate Alliance, the Bushido International Society, the Alliance Hall of Fame Society, the Sports Hall of Fame in Anderson, Ind., and a member of the Molum Caombat Arts Honor Society and the AAU All American (Karate). He instituted the following awards given in karate, Melvin Wise Memorial Award and the Legends Award. He was also an U.S. Army veteran.

Surviving are two sons, Sean Christopher Rollins of Indianapolis, and Jamie L. (wife, Shari) Bossmann of Auburn; three grandchildren; two sisters, Rachel I. Rollins of Anderson, Ind., and Florence E. Anderson of Atlanta, Ga.; two brothers, Edward S. and Rudolph J. Rollins II, both of Anderson, Ind.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial gathering will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008, at Staab Funeral Home. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008, at Staab Funeral Home where military honors will be conducted. Burial will be in Camp Butler National Cemetery at a later date.
