Ellen M. Williams
Ellen Marie was born April 2, 1921 in Glenarm to Joseph F. and Oma M. (Cardiff) Keen. She attended school in Springfield and graduated from Lanphier High School. She went to work and helped her mother support their family. She met the love of her life, Henry H. Williams, and they married September 1, 1942. She became a dedicated military wife, moving with her family to several places across the country and overseas. When her son was a high school senior she returned to work as a bookkeeper for a flower shop, and was later delighted to be trained as a floral arranger, allowing her creative side to shine. She loved being a tourist in the United States and other countries, and when she saw familiar places on TV, loved to be able to say “I’ve been there!” She was a Christian woman and longtime member of Springfield Southern Baptist Church. She slipped away from us on February 19, 2017 in hospice care in Marietta, GA. A devoted wife, loving mother, and dear friend, she will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her daughter, Marilyn (the late Gerard) Metzger of Chicago; son Joseph (Jeannine) of Acworth, GA; three grandchildren; three great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews; a former son-in-law and daughter-in-law; other family and very dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved “Hank” of sixty seven years; her brothers, Kenneth and Edward, many cousins and cherished friends.
A visitation will be at Staab Funeral Home on Thursday, February 23, 2017 from 4-6 pm.
A funeral will be at Staab on Friday, February 24, at 9:30 am, followed by burial at Camp Butler, where she will rejoin her Hank.
Memorial gifts appreciated to Kumler Ministries.
