Ellen J. Heitz, 89, of Springfield, died at 8:15 a.m., Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at Villa East Healthcare in Sherman. She was born December 10, 1921 in Jacksonville, to Carl Leo and Nellie Teresa Weitzel. She married Robert W. Heitz on November 4, 1944 and he survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Robert C. (Kathy) Heitz of Loami and Kenneth R. (Angela) Heitz of Bradley; nine grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Her parents; two brothers, Don and Carl Weitzel and two great grandchildren preceded her in death.
Ellen was a member of St. Cabrini Church and a resident of Springfield most of her life. She was a homemaker.
Visitation: 9:30-10:30 a.m., Monday, August 1, 2011 at St. Cabrini Church.
Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m., Monday, August 1, 2011 at St. Cabrini Church with Monsignor John Ossola officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to St. Cabrini Church.

Dear Uncle Bob, Bobby and Kenny, I was so sorry to hear about Aunt Sis. I will always remember our family trips to Springfield to see the Weitzel family and always the stop at the store to get a bag of candy for the trip home. Dear Bob, Ken and Heitz Family Members, My sincere condolences to all of you. I know that Mrs. Heitz lived a full and wonderful life surrounded by loving family and many, many friends. I am grateful for having been one of those neighbor kids she welcomed into her home on countless occasions -- to play pool, to have a snack or two or just to hang out with her sons and other kids. She was truly a Kool Aid Mom and always a gracious and smiling hostess. Though the loss of a very special loved one is always difficult, I hope you find peace and consolation knowing that she and Mr. Heitz created many memories in their many years together as husband and wife. May God bless and guide you all.
