Ellen E. "Dolly Best" Watkins
Ellen Eileen “Dolly Best” Watkins, passed away at 5:38 pm, Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at her home.
Ellen was born February 10, 1931 to Charles and Lula Stubbs Best.
Ellen was a graduate of Feitschans High School.
She worked for C.I.P.S. Company in the office of Vice-President in charge of Finance for twelve years. She also worked for Armbruster Manufacturing Company as Office Secretary for seventeen years; State of Illinois Department of Mines and Minerals for ten years and retired after fifteen years as a part time Bailiff for the Sangamon County Courts.
Ellen loved music, she played the accordion, piano and organ. She enjoyed Ballroom Dancing and Tap Dancing.
She was a member of First Christian Church.
Ellen married Eugene E. Watkins, he preceded her in death in 1988. Also preceding her were six sisters, Elsie Strickland, Helen McLaughlin, Mildred Sommer, Lula Allgood, Blossom Strawn and Reba Crawford and five brothers, Charles Best, Jr., Everett Best, Herman Best, James Best and Robert Best.
She is survived by several nephews and nieces, great nephews and nieces, great great nephews and nieces and was the beloved “Aunt Dolly” to five generations and their friends. They all share in the loss of this loving lady.
Memorial Gathering: 10:30 am – 12:30 pm, Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.
Memorial Service: 12:30 pm, Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield with Cindy Lash officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
