Eileen M. Townsend
SPRINGFIELD – Eileen M. Townsend, 89, of Springfield died at 2:40 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21, 2008, at St. Joseph’s Home.
She was born Jan. 8, 1919, in Springfield, the daughter of Adolph and Laura Kunkel Huber. She married Robert L. Townsend on June 4, 1938; he preceded her in death on March 18, 2006. She was also preceded in death by her parents and four brothers, Everett, Norman, Wilbur and Otis Huber.
Mrs. Townsend was a homemaker. She was a graduate of Feitshans High School and a member of Sacred Heart Church, where she was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society. She was a die-hard Cub fan, a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and was a fantastic cook.
Surviving are seven daughters, Nancy (husband, Carl) Saladino of Springfield, Mary Teresa (husband, Don) Ballentine of Chatham and Jean Townsend, Pat (husband, Bill) Anderson, Carol Townsend, Marilyn (husband, Joe) Mueller and Janet (husband, Chuck) Reynolds, all of Springfield; four sons, Michael (wife, Carol) Townsend of Springfield, Danny (wife, Karen) Townsend of Mount Pleasant, Iowa, David (wife, Michelle) Townsend of Chatham and Thomas Townsend of Springfield; 25 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of funeral Mass at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2008, at Sacred Heart Church with the Rev. Richard Chiola officiating. A private family burial for her and her husband will be held in Calvary Cemetery at a later date.
