Edwin "Duck" Buchanan
SPRINGFIELD, IL- Edwin “Duck” Buchanan, 72, of Springfield died at 7:36 AM, Saturday, December 22, 2018 at St. John’s Hospital. He was born March 17, 1946 in Houston, MS, to the late Brazzie and Frances (Pulliam) Buchanan.
He was also preceded in death by his companion, Rita Westbrook; two sisters, Jetty Washington and Wanda Davidson and four children, Chantaan Day, Edwin Day, Wanda Day, and Sherika Broom.
Left to cherish his memory are his four children, Rachel Westbrook of Springfield, Troy (Roxanne) Buchanan of Okolona, MS, Faye (Tommy) Gillespie of Una, MS, and Ardelia Reynolds of Jacksonville, FL; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; three sisters, Kay (Willy) Webb, Jan (Reco) Colebrooke, and Nan (Marvin) Beard all of Houston, MS; two brothers, Anthony “Robert” Buchanan of Houston, MS and A.B. (Shirley) Buchanan of Joliet, IL.
Edwin has been a resident of Springfield since 1964. He retired from AT&T in 2006 after 37 years of service. Previously he was employed at the St. Nicholas Hotel.
He was a member of the Spirit of Springfield gospel group, playing lead guitar and singer for many years. Edwin was an avid Lakers and Dodgers fan and enjoyed spending time with his grandpup, Minni.
Visitation: 11 am — 1 pm, Friday, December 28, 2018 at New Hope Baptist Church.
Funeral Service: 1 pm, Friday, December 28, 2018 at New Hope Baptist Church with Reverend Anthony Crawford officiating.
