Edward "Sonny" E. Kaplon
Edward E. “Sonny” Kaplon, 91, of Springfield, died at 4:45 pm, Monday, October 20, 2014 at his home. He was born September 1, 1923 in Taylorville to Antone and Mary Widmar Kaplon.
After graduating Taylorville High School, he enlisted for WII. He serviced in the Pacific Theater with the 408th 22nd Bomb Group attaining the rank of S/SGT.
He enjoyed all sports and working in his yard. In his later years he worked at the Leland Stern Building, where he was well liked by all.
He is survived by his sister, Margaret Sheridan of Taylorville; one son, Kurt; two daughters, Rebecca and Darcy and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Steven; three sisters, Rose Corciatto, Katy Durbin and Theresa Sheedy and an infant brother, Tony Kaplon Jr.
Graveside Service: 1 pm, Friday, October 31, 2014 at Camp Butler National Cemetery, where Military Honors will be conducted.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sangamon County Interveterans Burial Detail.

Darcy, Becky and Kurt. My condolences to you I remember your dad as a nice quiet guy as he took us to school so many years ago. RIP Mr Kaplon.
