Edith L. Donath
SPRINGFIELD – Edith L. Donath, 72, of Springfield died at 6 p.m. Saturday, March 28, 2009, at St. John’s Hospice.
She was born Feb. 5, 1937, in Lone Grove Township in Fayette County, the daughter of
Harold and Lena E. Denning Pruett. She married Wilfred A. Donath on Jan. 25, 1958; he preceded her in death on Jan. 20, 1983.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Lily Penney; a brother, Paul Pruett; and two great-grandsons.
She is survived by a daughter, Gloria VanHuss of Springfield; a son, Donald (wife, Katherine) Donath of Springfield; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and two more on the way; longtime companion, Raymond Lawson of Springfield; a brother, Ronald (wife, Libby) Pruett of Charleston; sister-in-law and best friend, Alberda Pruett of St. Peter; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Edith was a resident of Springfield since 1955. She was a cafeteria manager for Springfield Public Schools, retiring in 1997 after 33 years. She also retired from Noonan’s Hardware in 1997 after 14 years. After retirement she was employed at J.C. Penney’s.
Edith was a member of St. Joseph’s Church in Springfield and the Eagles Club Aerie 437. She enjoyed traveling. She also enjoyed quilting, needlework and embroidery.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 31, 2009, at Staab Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 1, 2009, at Staab Funeral Home. Monsignor Thomas Holinga will be officiating. Burial will be at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
