Edith H. Johnson
Edith H. Johnson, 93, of Springfield, formerly of Jacksonville, died at 12:20 am, Monday, October 5, 2015 at Memorial Medical Center. She was born February 24, 1922 in Jacksonville to W. Chauncy and Georgia Hembrough Carter.
Survivors include one daughter, E. Cheryl Schnirring of Springfield; one son, Richard R. Johnson of Oklahoma City, OK; one brother Howard G. Carter of Roodhouse; one sister-in-law, Winnie Carter of Franklin; ten nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Sandra Johnson in 2010; one sister Mary Roland and two brothers, Ralph and Earl Carter.
She has been a resident of Springfield since 1987 and was formerly of Jacksonville. She worked as a collator for a Bookbindery in Jacksonville for twenty-two years.
Edith was a former member of the Mary Todd Unit of Home Extension; she was an avid reader and enjoyed gardening, canning and made great jelly.
Memorial Gathering: 10-11 am, Friday, October 9, 2015 at Staab Funeral Home.
Memorial Service: 11 am, Friday, October 9, 2015 at Staab Funeral Home with Vaughn Beeman officiating.
Burial will be at 10 am, Saturday, October 10, 2015 at Diamond Grove Cemetery in Jacksonville.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or West Side Christian Church Building Fund.
