Edgar Carl "Abe" Loeser
Edgar “Abe” Carl Loeser, 98, of Springfield, died at 8:10 pm, Friday, February 26, 2016 at St. Joseph’s Home. He was born February 11, 1918 in Springfield to Joseph F. and Anna Penney Loeser. He married Margareta “Margo” Fleischmann in 1958 and she preceded him in death in 2009. Also preceding him in death were his parents, four brothers, Louie, Stuart, Howard, and James; and one sister, Lorraine Matulevich. Surviving are a sister, Rita Broeker of Springfield; a brother, Allen (Carol) Loeser of Springfield and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Abe retired as a Staff Sargent from the United States Army after 23 years of service. He was a life member and past commander of the VFW Post 755. He was also a member of the Society of the 3rd Infantry Division, Knights of Columbus and the Lions Club. During his time of service in the Army he received many commendations, including: Silver Star, Good Conduct Ribbon, American Defense Service Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbon with Four Bronze Battle Stars and Five Overseas Service Bars.
Visitation: 9-9:45 am Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at St. Joseph’s Home Chapel.
Funeral Mass: 10:00 am, Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at St. Joseph’s Home Chapel with Reverend Manney Cuizon officiating.
Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.
