Earl J. “Dude” Rhodes, 88, of Springfield died on Wednesday, October 20, 2019. He was born on January 8, 1931 in Pearl, IL to Virgil and Lula (Gorley) Rhodes.
He married Beatrice “Pat” Branham on December 24, 1955 and she preceded him in death on May 6, 1991. He married Donna R. Rigney on June 6, 1994 and she preceded him in death on March 6, 2019. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Nancy Fern and Vivian Rhodes; and one brother, Wayne Rhodes.

Earl is survived by two sons, Kevin W. Rhodes (Mary) of Hattiesburg, MS and Stephen J. (Tana) Rhodes of Quincy, IL; one stepson, Gary “Mike” (Kim) Rigney of Springfield; two grandchildren, Nicholas and Tara; five great-grandchildren and one brother, Robert Rhodes of Pearl, IL.

Earl was a United States Navy Veteran, serving during the Korean War from 1951-1955. He spent his career as an iron worker and retired in 1991 after 42 years of service.

He loved spending time with his family, friends and enjoyed the occasional trip to the casino.

Visitation: 5-7 pm, Monday, November 4, 2019 at Staab Funeral Home-Springfield.
Private family burial will be held at Oak Ridge Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
