Dorothy Margaret Bumgardner
Dorothy Margaret Bumgardner, 98, of Springfield, died at 6:05 am, Friday, December 13, 2013 at Regency Nursing Care Residence. She was born August 12, 1915 in Chatham, to Alfred Orin and Sarah Marie Ballweg Bumgardner.
She is survived by one half-brother, Melvin Bumgardner of Tacoma, WA; several nieces and nephews and several cousins included Ann Charland of Springfield.
She was preceded in death by her parents; half brother, Alfred Orin Bumgardner and cousin, Virginia Bomke.
She was a longtime member of Grace Lutheran Church, where she was an active member of Grace Circle. She was a member of Home Extension and a lifelong member of The Order of the Eastern Star. She attended many reunions in Chatham through the years. She was a schoolteacher at Dan Jones School, North Pawnee, and at Sugar Creek School southeast of Chatham. She did substitute teaching until 1973, when she retired to help her dad with his gardening of the family farm.
Visitation: 10-11 am, Monday December 16, 2013 at Grace Lutheran Church.
Funeral Service: 11 am, Monday, December 16, 2013 at Grace Lutheran Church with Pastor Thomas Christell officiating. Burial will follow at Chatham Memorial Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Lutheran Food Pantry or Meals on Wheels.

I remember Dorothy fondly when she was a resident at Oak Terrace..she always had a smile on her face every morning.I would love listening to the stories of when she was a young girl.She was such a joy.Prayers to her family and friends....Lavonna DeFrates
