Dororthy M. Hughes
Dorothy Margaret Hughes of Springfield, passed away peacefully in her sleep at 11 pm, Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at Mill Creek Care Center. She was born December 19, 1930 in Island Grove Township, to Henry Eugene and Tressie Isabella Taylor Koke. She married Floyd Edwin Hughes on November 3, 1950 and he preceded her in death on October 28, 1996.
Survivors include three daughters, Mary Norman of Springfield, Nancy (Don) Green of Glenarm and Brenda (David) Marsengill of Clayton, GA; six grandchildren, Robert Floyd Norman of Woodridge, Tricia Green (Scott Badgley) of Chicago, Catherine (Daniel) Waters of Athens, Matthew (Kim) Marsengill of Fayetteville, GA, John (Kim) Green of Denver, CO and Philip (Caitlin) Marsengill of Clayton, GA; six great grandchildren, Isabelle Waters, Charlotte Badgley-Green, Honora Green, Jeffery David “JD” Marsengill, Bowie Marsengill and Mason Badgley; one sister, Wilma Helen Miers of Fallon, NV and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son, Charles “Butch” Robert Hughes; one son-in-law, Robert Norman and two brothers, Henry Robert Koke and Charles Edward Koke.
Dorothy was a member of Elliott Avenue Baptist Church. She was very involved at Church and served as a Sunday School teacher for over twenty years and was a member of the Ladies Aid. She loved cooking, baking, quilting, sewing and making customized fabric clowns.
Visitation: 4 – 7 pm, Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield, with additional visitation 10-11 am, Thursday, December 7, 2017 at Elliott Avenue Baptist Church.
Funeral Service: 11 am, Thursday, December 7, 2017 at Elliott Avenue Baptist Church with Pastor Cana Roth and Pastor Daniel Waters officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
