Dorothy L. Ford

Dorothy L. Ford, 79, of Springfield, died at 4:50 am, Sunday, June 10, 2018 at St. Joseph’s Home. She was born on December 2, 1938 in Springfield to Joseph E. and Margaret L. (Shontz) Ford.

She is survived by her sister-in-law; Jane Ford of Springfield; one aunt, Anna Mae Ford of Springfield; six nieces and nephews and their families; several cousins including Camilla Dowling, and Special Friends, Barb Gremo, Barb Oakes, Les Eastep, and Sara Lieber.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Mary Margaret Ford, and two brothers, John K. (Carol) Ford and Paul E. Ford.

Dorothy worked for thirty- three years for Illinois Bell primarily as a downstate computer programmer retiring at age 51.

She was a member of Telephone Pioneers and UCT, Phi Theta Kappa, and Al-Anon, where she mentored others. Traveling the world and researching family history were major interests in her life. Dorothy enjoyed reading, writing, movies, crossword puzzles, and had a quirky sense of humor.

Memorial Gathering: 3 – 6 pm, Monday, June 18, 2018 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.

Memorial Service: 4:30 pm, Monday, June 18, 2018 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield with Monsignor John Ossola and Dee Stern officiating. A private burial will be held at a later date at Calvary Cemetery.
