Dorothy Howe Handwerk
Dorothy Handwerk, 92, of Springfield, died at 10:45 am, Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at Concordia Lutheran Village. She was born July 17, 1922 in Glen Falls, NY, to Clinton D. and Elsie Finch Howe. She married Charles E. Handwerk on September 27, 1947 and he preceded her in death on January 7, 2007.
Survivors include one daughter, Janice (Jay) Barnard of Springfield; two sons, Edward (Georgia) Handwerk of Friendswood, TX and Gary (Nancy) Handwerk of Seattle, WA; four grandchildren, Brian Barnard, Mindy (Tim) Dorsey, Nick Handwerk and Shana Handwerk and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband and two brothers, Ralph and Donald Howe.
Dorothy was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, where she was formerly involved with several committees. She enjoyed flower gardening, reading, baking and was a seamstress. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family.
The family would like to thank Dr. Randy Western, Dr. Brett Western, Dr. David Dodwell and Dr. Donald Graham and their Staffs’ for the excellent care and concern shown to Dorothy and her family. They would also like to thank the Staff at Concordia Village for their genuine care of Dorothy during her stay.
Visitation: 9:30-11 am, Saturday, March 7, 2015 at Concordia Village Chapel.
Funeral Service: 11 am, Saturday, March 7, 2015 at Concordia Village Chapel with Pastor Greg Busboom officiating.
Burial will be at 10 am, Monday, March 9, 2015 at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
