Doris V. Paul Hunter
Doris V. Paul Hunter, 88, of Springfield, passed away at 5:30 pm, Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at Oak Terrace. She was born on May 19, 1928 in Curran to Arthur William and Martha E. (Drennan) Paul. She married Donald E. Hunter on July 2, 1955 and he preceded her in death on October 27, 2001.
Doris was a loving daughter, wife, cousin and friend who didn’t know a stranger. She was always there to help everyone and every animal in need. She especially loved Beagles. Doris never tired of helping the many organizations to which she belonged.
Doris was a woman ahead of her time, constantly furthering her education. She was a social worker, teacher and pilot. She was a lovely, caring person who lived by the motto “see and be seen”. She enjoyed driving her car to all the places she loved to shop, eat at and visit friends. Her signature hairdo and beautiful sweaters were legendary.
She got her Master of Science degree at the University of Illinois and attended Springfield Junior College, Millikin University, Western Illinois University, Sangamon State University and Lincoln Land Community College.
Doris was a member of the 1st Congregational Church, Eastern Star, Daughters of the Nile (former Queen), D.A.N.K., AAUW, Scottish Rite, Springfield Chapter NSDAR, Woman’s Club of Springfield, American Legion Auxiliary, Sangamon County Farm Bureau, Island Bay Yacht Club, AOPA and Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum.
She started working from the age of 15 until her retirement at the age of 80. Some of the places Doris had worked were Thomas Publishing, State Journal Register, DCFS, SIU and Mental Health Centers of Central Illinois.
Surviving are her brother in law, Dale Hunter, many cousins including Gladys Sommer, Anna Marie Diefenback, Caryl Aebel and special family friends, Paula (Holler) Lynn and Midge (Holler) Kendle.
Visitation: 3-5 pm, Saturday, October 15, 2016 at Staab Funeral Home-Springfield.
Funeral Service: 5pm, Saturday, October 15, 2016 at Staab Funeral Home-Springfield with Reverend Dan Dexter officiating.
Graveside Service: 10 am, Monday, October 17, 2016 at Camp Butler National Cemetery with Reverend Eugene Stormer officiating.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to ALS Association, Alzheimer’s Association or Animal Protective League.

Doris and Don were great friends. The Obit was perfectly written...Doris was of generous spirit. She will be missed!
