Donald Weinhoeft, 78, of Springfield died at 10:38 am, Saturday, December 11, 2021 at Memorial Medical Center. He was born January 5, 1943 in Peoria, IL. On July 31, 1965, he married his beloved wife of 56 years, Anita Harlock.
Don was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy E. (White) Weinhoeft and stepfather, Joseph Weinhoeft.
Don is survived by his loving wife, Anita Weinhoeft; his daughter, Betty (Owen) Doak of Crystal Lake, IL; his son, Steven (Amy) Weinhoeft of O’Fallon, IL; five grandchildren, Olivia Doak, Aidan Doak, Julia Doak, Claire Weinhoeft and Jake Weinhoeft; and his sister, Sharon (Larry) Young of Springfield, along with several nieces and nephews.
Don was a graduate of Griffin High School and Lincoln Land Community College. He worked in the banking industry for many years, and obtained several specialized certificates in banking and insurance. He was a member of the American Institute for Banking. Donald also served as a Republican precinct committeeman.
Don was a current member of UCT and involved with numerous service organizations. Throughout his life, he enjoyed working with kids and was very active in coaching youth sports. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church and a regular participant in adoration. Don was a devout Catholic and a man of strong faith.
He served in the Army National Guard for 6 years and was a member of the American Legion.
Don was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather, and he had a great sense of humor. Don was an avid Notre Dame fan, and he could often be seen sporting his ND spiritwear. Go Irish.
Visitation: 5:00 – 7:00 pm, Wednesday, December 22, 2021 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield, Illinois. For the health and safety of family and friends, proper masking is required for all services.
Funeral Mass: 10:00, Thursday, December 23, 2021 at Blessed Sacrament Church with Reverend Jeff Grant officiating.
Burial: Pending at Calvary Cemetery.
