Donald L. Haines
SPRINGFIELD – Donald L. Racketts Haines, 72, of Springfield died Friday, Aug. 29, 2008, at his residence.
He was born June 23, 1936, in Springfield, the son of Ira F. and Bessie Grieme Haines. He married Nancy Jo Lucas; they later divorced. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Gene, Tom and Harry Haines; and two sisters, his infant twin sister and Shirley Haines.
Mr. Haines was a lifelong resident of the Springfield area. He was a truck driver for 18 1/2 years for Orlandini Trucking and also worked for Woodside Township.
He was a member of the U.S. Navy from 1956 to 1957. He was an avid Glenwood Titans fan and a former umpire in the Springfield area. He was the last of the 10 Haines children to graduate Ball Township School.
Surviving are a daughter, Donna L. Haines (fiance, Brian Dennison Sr.) of Riverton; three sisters, Wilma Kerr of Temple, Texas, Betty Redpath of Chatham and Edith (William) Sausaman of Springfield; four brothers, Robert Haines of Manhattan, Kan., John (Doris) Haines of Chatham, Henry (Evelyn) Haines of Cherokee, Okla., and Edward (Dorothy) Haines of Springfield, Mo.; several aunts and uncles; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, 2008, at Staab Funeral Home. Services will be held at noon Friday, Sept. 5, 2008, at Staab Funeral Home, with Pastor Mark Gifford officiating. Burial will be in Vigal Cemetery, with military honors conducted by the Sangamon County Interveterans Burial Detail.
