SPRINGFIELD – Donald Anthony Kerber, 73, of Springfield died at 6:50 p.m. Saturday, May 8, 2010, at St. John’s Hospice.
He was born Nov. 6, 1936, in Buffalo, N.Y., the son of Roman and Antoinette Pauley Kerber; they preceded him in death. He married Linda C. Page on Oct. 24, 1990.
He is survived by his wife, Linda C. Kerber of Springfield; a daughter, Leigh Ann (fiance, Jason Hernendez) Kerber of Riverton; three sons, Brian (Lynn) Kerber of Sherman, Steve (Pam) Kerber of Springfield and Donny (Penelope Pope) Kerber Jr. of Springfield; a stepdaughter, Kellie DeLong of Springfield; a stepson, Rick (Kelly) Travis of Springfield; 13 grandchildren, Branson, Lindsay, Stephanie, Hailey, Presley, Taylor, Ashley, Paxton, Trey, Jaylee, Evan, Hayden, and Parker; a sister, Carol Ferrer of Springfield; two brothers, Ken (Caron) Kerber of Springfield and Jim (Lynda) Kerber of Denver; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Donald lived in Springfield for most of his life.
He was employed as a legislative liaison for the secretary of state.
Donald was a member of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception and Knights of Columbus Council 3914. He loved playing baseball and was on the State Softball Championship Team of 1969. He enjoyed spending time with his grandkids, watching the Cubs, Bears, Illini and golf. He was a Jeff Gordon fan and loved playing in his yard.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 11, 2010, at Staab Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 12, 2010, at Staab Funeral Home, with the Rev. Peter Harman officiating.
Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to St. John’s Hospice.
