Delbert D. Whitehurst, Jr.
Delbert Dayton Whitehurst, Jr., 66 of Springfield, died at 2:38 am, Saturday, June 18, 2016 at St. John’s Hospital. He was born May 16, 1950 in Springfield, to Delbert Dayton and Helen Harriet Page Whitehurst, Sr.
He is survived by one daughter, Darcie Whitehurst of Mt. Juliet, TN; three grandchildren, Caitlyn Draper, Dayton Whitehurst and Hope King; his significant other, Helen Davis of Springfield and her daughters, Sara and Carly Davis both of Springfield; her grandson, Chase Ferree; two sisters, Lorraine (Harold) Jack of Springfield and Linda (Roger) Cook of Florida; two brothers, Tommy Whitehurst and Bobby (Linda) Whitehurst both of Springfield and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Jarred Whitehurst.
Delbert was employed for nineteen years by Hospital Sisters Health System as a Technical Analyst. He formerly worked for Franklin Life, AIG and Illinois State Police. He served on the Village Board in Williamsville for many years.
He enjoyed wineries, Bicycling, Kayaking and Jazz. He was generous to those in need, but preferred to remain anonymous and would never let someone go without.
Visitation: 4-7 pm, Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at Staab Funeral Home.
Funeral Service: 11 am, Thursday, June 23, 2016 at Staab Funeral Home.
