Dean A. Ulbrich

Dean A. Ulbrich, 46, of Springfield, died at 9:15 am, Saturday, September 27, 2014 at St. John’s Hospice. He was born October 20, 1967 in Guttenberg, IA, to Paul and Janice Ludovissy Ulbrich. He married Melissa Thompson on June 15, 1991. His mother-in-law, Sheila Thompson and brother-in-law, Chad Winch preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife Melissa of Springfield; one son, Alexander Ulbrich of Springfield; parents, Paul and Janice Ulbrich; three sisters: Kim (Dave) Miller, Wanda (Tony) Przymus, Sherry (Paul) Hunstad; two brothers: Dennis (Shelly) Ulbrich, and Doug (Beth) Ulbrich; brothers-in-law: Matthew (Marie) Thompson, Zachary (Jenica) Thompson, Christopher (Crystal) Thompson; two sisters-in-law: Jennifer (Tom) Barker, and Stephanie (Steve) Dykstra; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Dean was a United States Army veteran. He attended Iowa State University where he received a Bachelor’s Degree. He was a resident of Springfield for the past seven years, and worked as a Soybean Purity Supervisor for Monsanto. Dean was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. He enjoyed volunteering at and watching his son’s sporting events. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Memorial Gathering: 4 – 7 pm, Wednesday, October 1, 2014 at Staab Funeral Home. A second gathering will be held from 9-10 am Thursday, October 2, 2014 at St. John’s Lutheran Church.

Memorial Service: 10 am, Thursday, October 2, 2014 at St. John’s Lutheran Church with Pastor Greg Busboom and Pastor Ladd Sonnenberg officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Iowa.
