Daniel Kent Siders, Sr.
Daniel Kent Siders, Sr., 79, of Springfield, died at 7:55 AM on Monday, Nov. 10, 2014 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
Kent was born February 9, 1935 in Bement, IL, the son of Daniel F. and Carolyn Starck
Siders. He married Nancy L. Laue on March 16, 1979.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Siders, of Springfield, sons Daniel Kent Siders, Jr. of
Lotus, California, Carey (Tanyia) Laue of Dawson, Illinois and daughters Stephanie (Charles) Gale of Oxford, AR and Katharine Lima of Springfield. Also- surviving Kent are seven grandchildren, three great grandchildren, a younger brother, Stephen R. Siders of Champaign and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A graduate of Bement High School in 1953, Kent did undergraduate work at Iowa State College and the University of Illinois. He finished his Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Arts Education at Illinois State (Normal) University. He later earned a Master’s Degree and post M.A. courses toward school administrators certification from Illinois State majoring in Industrial Technology.
Kent taught Metals Technology and Drafting for two years at Kewanee High School before moving to Springfield in 1960. He taught Industrial Arts at Grant and Franklin Middle Schools for six years, and then moved to Lanphier High School where he was Cooperative Education Diversified Occupations Coordinator for six years. In 1972 he was named principal of the original Springfield Area Vocational Center and in 1976 named planning director for the completion of the construction of the Capital Area Vocational (Career) Center. He became its director for the next 19 years until his
retirement in 1995.
During his 37 years of teaching and administration, Kent was active in numerous
professional organizations, serving a term as president of the Springfield Education
Association. He was a member of the Illinois Vocational and American Vocational Associations, the Area Center Directors Council of Illinois, and the Student Organization Vocational Industrial Clubs of America, which named him an honorary life member. Kent was also an honorary member and past commodore of the Springfield Motor Boat Club.
Memorial Service: 4:00 PM, Thursday, Nov. 13 at Staab Funeral Home in Springfield with Reverend Henry Schmidt officiating, followed with visitation until 7:00 PM.
Graveside Service: 11 AM, Friday, November 14, 2014 at Bement Township Cemetery with Reverend Jeremy Lafary officiating.
