Dan "Danny" Menghini
Dan “Danny” Menghini, 83, of Springfield, died at 3:13 am, Saturday, January 11, 2014 at his residence in the care of hospice. He was born June 28, 1930 in Royalton, IL to Apallinare and Ermelinda Menghini. He is preceded in death by his parents, one daughter Patty Dueker and one brother Frank Menghini. He married Velma Vieira-Moore on July 30, 1983.
Survivors include his wife Velma; three daughters Sandy Pabst and Sherry Cunningham both of Las Vegas and Linda Poppenga of Springfield; two step-daughters Sue Hays and Jennifer (Kurtis) Cooper both of Virden; one son Danny Menghini of Decatur; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Danny was a resident of Springfield most of his life. He was owner of Dr. Danny’s Springfield Television Company and owner of WVEM Radio Station. Danny was a US Navy veteran and member of Douglas Avenue United Methodist Church. He was an avid HAM radio enthusiast, PC enthusiast, and photographer. He enjoyed making crafts and loved nature with the squirrels, rabbits and birds. He was an avid exerciser and enjoyed mall walking. He always had a great sense of humor and he especially loved spending time with his family.
Visitation: 4-7 pm, Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at Staab Funeral Home.
Lie in State: 10 -11 am, Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at Douglas Avenue United Methodist Church.
Funeral Service: 11 am, Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at Douglas Avenue United Methodist Church with Rev. Julia Melgreen officiating. Burial will be at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
Memorial Contributions may be made to American Diabetes Association, American Heart Association or Douglas Avenue United Methodist Church.

Velma, You are in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Danny is safe in the arms of Jesus. I will miss getting all the good e-mail jokes he sent me. I've been in your place when I lost my husband. Know that Danny will still be with you in spirit.
