Dale Daniel "Dan" Vaughn
Dan Vaughn passed away at 3:39 pm on Saturday, February 25, 2017, at St. John’s Hospital surrounded by his family. Dan was born on October 18, 1935 in Springfield to Dale D. Vaughn and Emily L. Wenneborg, and they preceded him in death. He married Elizabeth Ann Swiney on April 27, 1957, and she survives.
Dan is survived by his three daughters: Kimberly (Mark) Woolard, Vicki (Bill) Peterman, and Julie (Brad) Zara, all of Sherman; seven grandchildren: J.D. (Anne) Woolard, Abbie (Mike) Joyner, Hilary (Nathan) Boyle, Paige Peterman, Hannah, Emily and Claire Zara; three great-grandchildren, Ellie, Parker and Matilda Woolard, brother-in-law, Bob (Margaret) Swiney of Findlay and sister-in-law, Kay (Jim) Gibson of Shelbyville, IL and his canine companion, Lola, and several cousins.
Dan was a resident of Sherman most of his life and was a United States Navy veteran serving in the Korean War. He was a member of Springfield 1st United Methodist Church. He was employed as a Transportation Consultant. Dan was instrumental in starting the girl’s softball program at Williamsville High School and the founder of the North Sangamon Republican Club. He served on the Sangamon County Board for sixteen years, past Officer of the Fancy Creek Township Board and Member of the Selective Service Board.
