Clyde S. Clark, 91, of Springfield, passed away on Thursday, November 17, 2022 at Mill Creek Alzheimer’s Special Care Center. He was born on July 19, 1931, in Newmansville, IL, the son of Elliott and Alma Reid Clark. He married Bernice I. Stiltz on July 31, 1955 and enjoyed 57 years of marriage before her death on July 30, 2012.

He is also preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Donald and Hershel Clark.

Surviving Clyde are his daughter, Susan (Bruce) Egolf of Springfield; son, Ron (Trisha) Clark of Sherman; four grandchildren, Erin Egolf, Scott Egolf, Alexis Clark and Jacob Clark; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Clyde grew up in Newmansville, where he played school sports and helped with the family country store.  After graduating from Tallula High School he enlisted in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict.  He was with the Navy until honorably discharged in 1955. After being discharged he took up bowling and coached little league baseball.  He then moved to Springfield and worked at Ameritech, formerly Illinois Bell, as an equipment engineer for 35 years before retiring in 1990.

He was a member of Lakeside Christian Church and often volunteered at Lewis Memorial Christian Village.  He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and enjoyed watching them and Illini basketball on television.  He was very much involved with his grandchildren and enjoyed attending their sporting events. He stayed active in his later years and enjoyed computer games, word search books and sitting in the sun.  He really liked barber shop, gospel and big band music.  Some of his favorite memories were traditions including family holiday gatherings, trips to his brother’s cabin resort in Wisconsin, and breakfast time with his buddies.
