Clarence "Jack" Roher Jr.
Clarence “Jack” Roher. Jr, 94, of Mt. Pulaski, died at 2:10 am, Friday, August 5, 2016 at St. John’s Hospital. Jack was born June 4, 1922 in Cornland, IL, the son of Clarence A. and Nannie E. (Rogers) Roher. The family moved to Lanesville, IL in 1915 where Jack and his future family lived until 1998. Jack married Mary E. Moore of Spaulding, IL on April 4, 1942 and she preceded him in death on May 11, 2007. Jack and Mary lived in the same house in Lanesville for fifty-two years and then moved to Illiopolis, IL in 1998.
Jack is survived by one son, Ronald (Mary) Roher of Lexington, IL; one daughter, Janet (Michael) Dobrinsky of Illiopolis, IL; four grandchildren, Christine Roher, Scott (Lisa) Roher, Leslie (Jason) Vallar and Lisa (Michael) Evans; three great-grandchildren, Eleanor Peterson, Dominic and John Michael “Jack” Vallar and several nieces and nephews.
Jack started doing custom farm service before he got out of high school, had several small jobs before entering the military service in 1942 where he spent three and one half years in the United States Army stateside and in Europe. He served with the 71st Infantry Division in France and Germany until WWII was over. Jack and his brother-in-law, Howard Young, had a custom farm service business for nine years, then Jack went to work for Borden Chemical Company in 1956 where he stayed until he retired in 1984.
Also preceding Jack in death are one brother, Virgil Roher; three sisters, Mary Young, Alice Polk, and Martha Roher.
Visitation: 9am – 10:15am, Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at Resurrection Parish, 410 Anne St., Illiopolis, IL
Funeral Mass: 10:30 am Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at Resurrection Parish with Reverend Raphael Paul DeMoreno officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.
