Charles Thomas "Tom" Bailey
Charles Thomas “Tom” Bailey, 67, of Cape Coral, FL died on Saturday, October
25, 2014 at Cape Coral Hospital. He was born May 22, 1947 in Springfield,
IL to John and Bertha (Davis) Bailey. He married Marie Martin on December
2, 1994. He was preceded in death by his parents and two infant brothers.
Tom attended Pawnee, IL schools before serving in Vietnam as a U.S. Navy
Seabee. He founded Bailey Hardwoods, Springfield, in 1983 and retired in
2006. He was a lifelong outdoor sports enthusiast and participant, enjoying
motor cycle racing, hunting, golfing, boating and fresh and salt water
fishing. He had a passion for travel. One of his many trips was to Costa
Rica as a volunteer with the Lions Club International distributing
eyeglasses. He loved talking to old friends and meeting new ones. He never
met a stranger.
Tom was a member of the AMVETS of Rock Mount, MO and the Cape Coral, FL
American Legion Post 0090 and the Moose Lodge of Cape Coral. He moved to
Rocky Mount, MO (Lake of the Ozarks) after his retirement, and in 2009
became a resident of Cape Coral, FL.
Surviving are his wife, Marie; son, Jeffrey Bailey, Springfield; daughter,
Jennifer(husband Rick) DeSart, Springfield; three grandchildren: Emma
Bailey and Kyle and Nicolas DeSart; sister, Janice (husband John) Murphy,
Pawnee; nephew Patrick (wife Christina) Murphy, Pawnee; niece Kelly (husband
Joe) Schober, St. Louis, and great nieces, Stella and Nora Schober.
A memorial gathering will be held from 11:00 am until time of services at 12:30 pm, Saturday, Nov. 1, 2014 at Staab Funeral Home, 1109 South Fifth Street, Springfield, with Pastor Mark Gifford officiating.
A celebration honoring Tom’s life
will follow at the Elks Lodge 158, 409 E. Lake Shore Drive, Springfield from
