Charles S. Chuck Johnson
SPRINGFIELD – Charles S. Chuck Johnson, 85, a resident of Springfield since 1946, died at 10 p.m. Monday, Sept. 10, 2007, at Memorial Medical Center.
He was born Sept. 2, 1922, in Chicago, the son of Sidney L. and M. Lillian Kennedy Johnson. He married Betty L. Jones on Jan. 15, 1950. His parents; daughter, Dianne Johnson; and brother, H. Meritt Johnson, preceded him in death.
Mr. Johnson was a U.S. Postal Service clerk for 37 years, retiring in 1985. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during World War II in the European Theater in the field artillery division. He was a member of West Side Christian Church, where he was a member of the Beau Knots, Golden K Kiwanis, AARP, National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled American Veterans. He was an escort at Memorial Medical Center.
Surviving are his wife, Betty L. Johnson of Springfield; son, David C. (wife, Pam) Johnson of Springfield; two grandchildren, Trisha (husband, Dan) Sheley and Jeremy Johnson; two great-grandchildren, Abigail and Connor Sheley; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2007, at Staab Funeral Home. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 13, 2007, at Staab Funeral Home, with Charles Lee and Charles Duggins officiating. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
