Charles M. Barber
Charles M. Barber, 92, formerly of Joliet, died at 1:45 am, Friday, November 25, 2016 at Regency Care in Springfield. He was born to Charles W. and Irene M. (Moir) Barber on June 27, 1924. He married Angelina M. DiPasquale on June 11, 1949 and she preceded him in death on July 19, 2014.
Survivors include four children, Charles J. (Christine) Barber of Springfield, Cathy (John) Sartore of Lebanon, TN, Michael (Suzanne) Barber of Savannah, GA, and Daniel Barber of Springfield; ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Janet Elizabeth Barber of Lebanon, TN; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Angelina Barber.
Charles was a United States Army veteran serving during the WWII era as part of the Philippine liberation.
Charles was an active member of IBEW Local Union #193 with 68 years of service, retiring in 1986.
He was a member of St. Aloysius Church. Charles volunteered at St. John’s Hospital and Memorial Medical Center as a Eucharistic minister. He was also a participant of St. John’s Hospital Cardiac Rehabilitation Department Phase III classes. Charles was an active member of Sangamon Valley Radio Club, W9YJF.
Visitation: 10-11:30 am, Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at St. Aloysius Church in Springfield.
Funeral Service: 11:30 am, Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at St. Aloysius Church with Monsignor David Hoefler Officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.
