Charles J. Williamson
Charles J. Williamson, 86, of Springfield, died at 9:45 am, Saturday, February 24, 2018 at St. John’s Hospital. He was a born again Christian and went to be with the Lord.
He was born on April 29, 1931, in Macomb, IL to Charles “Jack” Williamson and Esther Mae (Gore) Williamson of Ipava, IL.
He married Joan Price (deceased) on August 20, 1950 in Ipava, IL. They were blessed with three sons: Michael David of Springfield, OR, Myron Dennis (Kathy) and Martin Dane (Lisa), two grandsons: Michael and Nathan, and three great-grandchildren all of Des Moines, IA.
He later married Janet Thornton, his loving wife for the last 44 years. From this marriage he gained three stepchildren, Jamie and Michael Thornton and Richard (Rita) Heuerman, and six step-grandchildren.
Charles was an active member of Southern View Chapel. He was a U.S. Army National Guard Veteran, proudly serving from 1948-1950. He worked at Fiat-Allis for 34 years retiring in 1985. During that time he also served as a Deputy Sheriff for the Sangamon County Sheriff’s Patrol and was a Patron Life Member with the N.R.A., as well as a member of the Illinois State Rifle Association. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed restoring old firearms. He also enjoyed the wild bird and animals that came to his home for handouts of food and water. He loved and spoiled his cat, Sammy, who was his constant companion.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Robert James Williamson.
Visitation: 10:30-11:30 am, Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.
Funeral Service: 11:30 am, Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield with Pastor Gary Gilley officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
