SPRINGFIELD – Charles Duby R. Erickson Sr., 81, of Springfield died at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2007, at St. John’s Hospice.

He was born March 11, 1926, in Springfield, the son of Todd and Goldie Jacaway Erickson. He married Dorothy Kluckman on July 2, 1976. He was preceded in death by his parents and first wife, Norma Schwarberg on Nov. 21, 1973.

Mr. Erickson had worked at Hobbs Corp., Sangamo Electric Co. and Fiatallis as an industrial engineer.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during World War II. He was a graduate of Lanphier High School. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Church, Earl Bomke Horseshoe Club, Sunday Afternoon Horseshoe Club and Hobbs/Honeywell Golf League and Management Club. He enjoyed golfing, playing horseshoes and bowling. He volunteered with Senior and Special Olympics and the Illinois State Fair Horseshoe Tournament. He enjoyed gardening and being outdoors. He loved spending time with his grandkids. He loved music. He was a state champion horseshoe pitcher. He was a player agent for Connie Mack Baseball and coached Little League and Pony League baseball. He was active playing fast-pitch softball and Senior League baseball.

Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Erickson of Springfield; three daughters, Kathy (husband, Richard) Allison of East Peoria, Karen (husband, Bill) Cullen of Sarasota, Fla., and Kristine Erickson of Springfield; two sons, Charles Bob(wife, Janet) Erickson of Chatham and Roger (wife, Polly Ann) Erickson of Clarkesville, Ga.; three stepchildren, Connie (husband, Larry) Golembeck of Petersburg, Larry (wife, Diana) Kluckman of Springfield and Gary (wife, Jewell) Kluckman of Pawnee; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ed Erickson and Don (wife, Sharon) Erickson, both of Springfield; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 4, 2007, at Staab Funeral Home. Services will be held there at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 5, 2007. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
