Charles "Charlie" E. Brittin
Charles E. “Charlie” Brittin, 55, of Springfield, passed away at 4:32 p.m. on April 6, 2011 at his home. Charlie was born December 27, 1955 in Normal, IL, the son of Evans E. and Marilyn Kirchner Brittin. He married Sallie Louise Rodgers Butler on August 13, 1983.
Charlie was a graduate of Springfield High School and Lincoln Land Community College. He was co-owner of Brittin Piano Tuning. Charlie was a member of Hope Evangelical Free Church. He played bass guitar at his church and in several local groups. Charlie was a member of Vanatics Van Club and Springfield Automotive Modelers Club. He enjoyed camping, building models, restoring vans, and time spent with family and friends. Charlie had a joyful zest for life that endeared so many to him. He truly gave his all to others and was blessed by the love and care that so many people showed him and his family during his long illness.
He is survived by his wife; his parents; a brother, Joe Brittin (wife, Kim); a sister, Becky (husband, Coley) Cowan; two nephews (Andrew Cowan and Brad Brittin) and one niece (Melissa Brittin).
The family will receive friends from 3-7 p.m. on Monday, April 11, 2011 at Staab Funeral Home, 1109 S. 5th St., Springfield. A private entombment will be held at a later date at Oak Ridge Chapel Mausoleum.
A service of celebration of Charlie’s life will be held at Hope Evangelical Free Church, 3000 Lenhart Rd., Springfield at a later date.
