Catherine Marie Davis
Catherine Marie Davis, 94, of Sherman, died at 1:10 p.m., Saturday, August 9, 2014 at St. John’s Hospice. She was born May 1, 1920 in Elkhart, IL to Charles Brennan and Irene Colette Malerich Gleason. She married Merle M. Davis on December 27, 1941 and he preceded her in death on December 25, 2000. Also preceding her in death were her parents and three daughters, Katherine Ann Buhr, Marilyn Jo Butchek and Angela Marie Davis.
Survivors include one daughter, Barbara Doud of Athens; three sons, Robert M. Davis of Riverton, Thomas E. (Nancy) Davis of Elkhart and John “Jack” M. Davis of Andrew; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Kathleen Cassady of Royal Oak, MI; two brothers, Thomas (Patricia) Gleason and William (Sharon) Gleason both of Berkley, MI and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Catherine was a member of St. John Vianney Church and was very active in the church. She owned and operated her Hair Salon in her home after the birth of her children, after her kids were out of school she went to work for Betties Wigs in Springfield and Lincoln eventually retiring. She volunteered at the Villas and enjoyed sewing with her friends. She enjoyed reading, watching Illini Basketball, the St Louis Cardinals and golf.
Visitation: 4-7 p.m., Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at Staab Funeral Home with a prayer service at 4 p.m.
Lie In State: 10 – 11 a.m., Thursday, August 14, 2014 at St. John Vianney Church in Sherman .
Funeral Mass: 11 a.m., Thursday, August 14, 2014 at St. John Vianney Church in Sherman with Reverend Ralph Zetzl, Reverend Simon Taabu and Monsignor David Lantz concelebrating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions may be made to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation or St. John Vianney Church.

It was our privilege to have known Marie . Her kindness was life changing and her consistent presence was a challenge to grow. Her impact on her parish has been far reaching. We are all better for having known her.
