Carroll Ray McGrew
SPRINGFIELD – Carroll Ray CR McGrew, 75, of Springfield died at 12:45 a.m. Saturday, June 13, 2009, at Memorial Medical Center.
He was born Dec. 30, 1933, in Williamsville, the son of John and Fannie Bozarth McGrew. He married Shirley Jean Ryner on March 29, 1952; she preceded him in death on July 1, 2007.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Jim, George and Dean McGrew; and a sister, Mary Siders.
He is survived by two daughters, Jan Cleaver and Pam (husband, Larry) Kaiser, both of Springfield; five grandchildren, Jim (wife, Julia) Cleaver Jr., Jason (wife, Tammy) Cleaver, Lindsay Kaiser, Jessica (husband, Jack) Berry and Laurel Kaiser; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Angie (husband, Earl) Hollinshead of Springfield; a brother, Bill (wife: Bonnie) McGrew of Prescott, Ariz.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
CR resided in Springfield and Buffalo most of his life. He retired as a captain of the Illinois State Police.
He was a member of the Elks Lodge, American Legion Post 616, FBI National Academy Association, and the Retired State Police Association of IL. He loved watching his grandsons race, woodworking, working in the yard, and the St. Louis Cardinals. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 16, 2009, at Staab Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 17, 2009, at Staab Funeral Home, with Dr. Delbert Penrod officiating.
Burial will be at Camp Butler National Cemetery, where military honors will be conducted.
