Carl Thomas "Tom" Weitzel II
Carl Thomas “Tom” Weitzel II, 69, of Springfield, died at 5:08 am on Sunday, May 10, 2020 at St. John’s Hospital. He was born on December 18, 1950 in Springfield, IL to Carl Thomas and Mary Alice (Stevens) Weitzel, Sr.
Tom is survived by two daughters, Nicole (Mike Peterson) Flynn and Jessica “Jess” (Kayla) Weitzel, both of Springfield; their mother, Mary Ann Weitzel of Springfield; two granddaughters, Shayla Flynn and Megan Peterson, both of Springfield; two sisters, Sally King of Paducah, KY and Carol (Bill) Wendling of Springfield; sister-in-law Cherrie Weitzel of Auburn; two brothers, Jerry Weitzel of Indianapolis, IN and Richard “Rick” Weitzel of Springfield; companion and partner, Theresa Smith of Jerome; lifelong friend Terry (Patti Cliffe) Chapman of St. Louis, MO; one aunt and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Judy Weitzel and Mary Ellen Van Amburgh, and one brother, Donald “Don” Weitzel.
Tom was a resident of the Springfield area for most of his life and a member of Springfield Bible Church. He honorably served in the Illinois National Guard. Tom was also a member of the H.O.G. Springfield Chapter and Teamsters Local 916.

The family plans to have a graveside service at a later date at Camp Butler National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.
