Many nieces and nephews and by his Franciscan Family of the Sacred Heart Province.
Br. Jim was a member of the Franciscan Province of the Sacred Heart for 55 years. He was Sacristan at St. Peter’s Church Chicago, IL for 23 years and was a bookbinder for the library at Quincy University for 20 years until his move Villa West Healthcare Facility in 2000. Br. Jim always served with a joyful heart and ready to sing an Irish tune. With his wit and smile, his jokes and twinkling blue eyes, he was the leprechaun of Sacred Heart Province. He cherished his Irish heritage and reveled in his Irish antics.
He loved being a Franciscan. Br. Jim was also a very spiritual person and devoted himself in his retirement years to prayer. He was so faithful in attending the Eucharist and Divine Office. He had a very devout devotion to Our Lady of Fatima, so much so that in his final days he wanted the statue of Our Lady to face him while he lay in bed.
Br.Jim had not been conscious the last few hours of his life, but minutes before he passed his eyes opened wide and a small ‘Irish’ grin came over his face. We knew then that his time to rejoice had come. He then closed his eyes took his last breath of earthly life and the first breath of eternal life. He was home with the Lord.
