SPRINGFIELD – Billie Burns, 53, of Springfield died at 2:25 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 15, 2009, at her residence.
She was born Nov. 8, 1955, in Gary, Ind., the daughter of Robert Louis and Pearl E. Betty Pierce Meyer Sr. She married Stephen George Burns on June 28, 1985; he preceded her in death on Feb. 12, 2000.
She was preceded in death by her father; husband, Stephen G. Burns; stepmother, Loretta M. Meyer; and Spooner.
She is survived by a daughter, Jessica (husband, Richard) Davis of Springfield; two grandchildren, Richard and Jarrin Davis; her mother, Pearl E. Betty Baker of Springfield; four sisters, Linda Koehne of Gillespie, Vickie (husband, Joe) Malaski of Turlock, Calif., Lynne (husband, Tito) Escobedo of Converse, Texas, and Annie Ulinski of Litchfield; three brothers,
Ed (wife, Sally) Braundmeier of Gillespie, Robert L. Meyer Jr. of Versailles, Mo., and Ronald Baker of Springfield; several aunts and uncles; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was a resident of Springfield for most of her life. She worked for the SIU School of Medicine for 28 years. She was formerly active with Big Brother/Big Sister and Children’s Miracle Network. She played softball for more than 40 years in various leagues, loved the outdoors, gardening and nature. She was an avid Parrothead and a graduate of Lanphier High School. She will be missed by many family and friends.
Visitation will be held from noon until time of funeral services at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 19, 2009, at Staab Funeral Home, with Pastor Mark Gifford officiating.
