Betty Lou "Penny" Springer-Miller
Betty Lou “Penny” Springer-Miller, 89, died at 5:50 pm, Thursday, September 15, 2016 at St. Paul’s Home in Belleville, IL. She was born July 10, 1927 in Decatur, IL to Donald and Helen Irene Molloy Tozer. She married Herman Kenneth Springer and he preceded her in death in 1991. She then married Leo Frances Miller and he preceded her in death in 2008.
Surviving are a daughter, Pamela Gayle Springer-Bone of Billings, MT; two sons, Patrick Kenneth (Gail) Springer of Palmetto, FL and Stephen Michael (Martha Anne) Springer of Fairview Heights, IL; seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Penny was a former resident of Springfield, IL and was a member of West Side Christian Church. She was a member of the Morning Etude Musical Association and a choir director of many churches. She was a concert singer and, while in her 20’s, sang professionally at the St. Louis Muny Opera. She also hosted a TV children’s program on Channel 2 called Penny’s Story for about 7 years. Penny was very artistic and enjoyed oil painting, writing books, playing the piano, and singing. For 25 years, she taught piano and voice to numerous students. She taught school in Chatham, IL. She also worked for the City of Springfield.
Visitation: 9-10:30 am Monday, September 19, 2016 at Staab Funeral Home-Springfield.
Funeral Service: 10:30 am, Monday, September 19, 2016 at Staab Funeral Home-Springfield with Vaughn Beeman officiating.
Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Pawnee, IL.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to a charity of donor’s choice.
