Betty Lou Bowman
Betty Lou Brooks Bowman, 76, of Springfield, died at 9:30 pm, Thursday, September 26, 2013 at Memorial Medical Center. She was born July 22, 1937, to John Orville and Mary Etta Regelin Brooks.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Eva Harris Best and one brother Orville Eugene Brooks.
Betty is survived by one daughter Karen Annette (Robert) Bowman Rheude of Springfield; two sons, Ronald Keith Bowman and wife of Cedar Rapids, IA and Bradley Gale (Deb) Bowman of Glenarm; five grandchildren, Nicholas Miller, Tara Miller and Alexander Bowman all of Springfield, Sadie Brubaker of Glenarm and Katie Azzo of Auburn; several great grandchildren; four sisters, Mary Jane Brooks Boyd of Phoenix, AZ, Geraldine Mae Brooks Allen of Springfield; Dorothy Annette Brooks of Park Forest, and Evelyn Louise Brooks Schumacher of Springfield and one brother, Jack Harris of Springfield.
Betty retired from Country Mutual Insurance Company after 27 years of service. She earned her bachelor’s degree in management from the University of Illinois, Springfield in 1985 and earned her Certified Professional Secretary designation in 1977. She loved and enjoyed her family. Her first priority was being Gram, baking Christmas cookies, birthday dinners, making it to all the grandchildren’s events and starting traditions that will always be remembered.
She was an avid golfer, enjoyed gardening, scrabble with sisters, penny slots, Words with Friends and meeting with her Springfield High School Alumni.
Visitation: 10-11 am, Monday, September 30, 2013 at the First Church of the Nazarene.
Funeral Service: 11 am, Monday, September 30, 2013 at the First Church of the Nazarene.
