Bernice E. Young

Bernice E. Young, 81, of Springfield, died at 1:00 am, Saturday, October 12, 2013 at her home. She was born on October 14, 1931 in Curran, IL to Fred and Ellie Buchanan Harlan. She married James R. Young on December 10, 1966 and he preceded her in death on February 19, 2011. She is also preceded in death by her parents and 11 brothers and sisters.

Bernice is survived by four daughters, Judi (Michael) Dowler of Springfield, Sheila (Larry) Carter of Jacksonville, Pam (Buzz) Barton and Tricia Simons both of Springfield; one son, Glenn (Donna) Weaver of Springfield; 12 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; one sister, Alice Hopper of Springfield and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was a member of St. Joseph’s Church and had formerly worked as a waitress at the Abe Lincoln Hotel, Norb Andy’s and the Lamplighter. She then ran her own home daycare for 12 years. Her hobbies included crocheting, cooking and baking. She also loved her yard and gardening and had fostered many animals for the APL.

Private Graveside services will be held at Camp Butler National Cemetery at a later date.
