Arthur W. ""Big Art"" Campbell
Arthur “Big Art” W. Campbell, Jr., 67, of Springfield, died at 6:11 pm, Sunday, May 20, 2018 at his home. He was born July 23, 1950 in Rochester to Arthur W., Sr. and Erna (Moore) Campbell.
Survivors include two daughters, Carrie Campbell of Wood River and Stacie Campbell of Springfield; eight grandchildren, Keven Holland III, Mirranda “Adele” Campbell, Arthur W. Campbell III, Jacob Campbell, Mary Campbell, Steve Smith, Nikki (Tim) Rhodes-Melendez and Brandon Terrill; two brothers, Walter (Christa) Page of Baltimore, MD, and Tom (Maggie) Page of Springfield, and Charisse Tucker of Springfield and Donna Erwin of Athens and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Arthur “Little Art” W. Campbell III; one brother, Kenny Campbell; three sisters, Wanda McGee, Hilda Scott, and Wanita Ushman.
He was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps, serving two tours in Vietnam. For his service, he earned a Bronze Star, National Defense Service Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and RVN Cross of Gallantry.
Big Art retired from the State of Illinois in 2002 after over 20 years of security for IDOC- Concordia, McFarland and the National Guard. He was the very proud co-owner (with Donna) of Traveling Treasures “The Store That Rocks” for over 20 years.
Big Art was very involved in CY Young Little League baseball, DAV, loved his St. Louis Cardinals and was a member of Raider Nation. Art also loved celebrating the holidays and birthdays with as many friends and family that could join.
Visitation: 10 am – 1 pm, Saturday, May 26, 2018 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.
Funeral Service: 1 pm Saturday, May 26, 2018 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Buckhart, IL, where military honors will be conducted.
