Arthur L. Smith
MECHANICSBURG- Arthur L. Smith, 88, of Mechanicsburg died Saturday, February 6, 2016 at St. John’s Hospice.
He was born January 5, 1928 in Springfield, IL, the son of Arthur L. and Frankie Tipton Smith. He Married Elnor M. Branham on January 24, 1953. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ellie; brother, Arol “Fig” Smith; sister, Anna Hulfachor; granddaughter, Jade Ostermeier, and great granddaughter, Alexis Fagan.
Survivors include five daughters, Carla Valenti of Riverton, Cheryl (Robin) Freeman of Cincinnati, OH, Karen (David) Tanner of Sopchoppy, FL, Cathy (Gary) Sagle of Mechanicsburg, and Janellen (Todd) Rowden of Buffalo; son, Danny (Judy) Hicks of Chatham; nine grandchildren, Robin Freeman, Glenn Freeman, Zach Valenti, Mat Smith, Courtney Bee, Tom Smith, Kendra Rowden, Shalei Fields, and Anna Sagle; seven great grandchildren, Nicholas, William, Katherine, Jaydyn, Ava, Emelia, and Lane; and brother, William Smith of Cantrall.
Arthur is a United States Army veteran who served during the Korean War, earning the combat infantry badge. He was a member of Edinburg First Baptist Church and the VFW Post #10302.
He was the owner of Art Smith Real Estate, owned Springfield Camper Sales, and Arthur’s Banquet Hall.
Visitation: 4-8 PM, Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at Staab Funeral Home.
Funeral Service: 11 AM, Wednesday, February 10, 2016 at Staab Funeral Home with Pastor Denny Hamilton officiating. Burial to follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.
Memorial contributions may be made to Edinburg First Baptist Church.
