Anna Mae (Houchens) Smith, 86, of Divernon, died at 12:25 pm, Friday, May 9, 2014 at St. John’s Hospice. She was born January 4, 1928 in Etoile, Kentucky to Moss and Minnie (Jackson) Houchens. Anna was thirteen years old when the Houchens family moved to Illinois In 1941. She married William Leland Smith on August 10, 1946 in Springfield. They started their first day of married life together by attending the Illinois State Fair. The couple resided in Loami, IL, until September of 1980 when they moved to Brooksville, FL and lived there until Leland retired. In April 1994, the couple returned to Illinois to live out their years in Divernon. Leland preceded her in death on May 22, 2012.

Anna Mae was a devoted wife and mother. She is survived by five children; Darrell (JoAnn) Smith of Loami, David (Gina) Smith of Gillespie, Patty Miller (companion: Bill Briggs) of Hallsville, MO, Ricky Smith (companion Peg Dawson) of Divernon and Melinda Presswood (companion: Dan Hinman) of Macomb; one sister, Nell Marie Johnson of Cornland; Eleven grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; one great great grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers and two sisters.
