Alwin J. Wenger
Alwin J. Wenger, 102, of Springfield, died at 3:15 am, Wednesday, August 22, 2018 at Concordia Village. He was born October 13, 1915 in Frohna, MO to Fredrick Samuel and Bertha (Schutz) Wenger. He married Marcella Barrow and she preceded him in death in 1969. He married Dorothy Mae Gudgeon in 1978 and she preceded him in death on July 21, 2012.
Also preceding him in death were his parents; one son, James Wenger; five brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include one son, Ronald (Carolyn) Wenger of Billings, MT; the granddaughter he adored Sarah E. (Jake) Schrickling and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mr. Wenger was a US Army WWII veteran serving at Fort Bragg. He worked for forty-four years for Illinois Bell Telephone Company, where he worked in multiple positions and retired as District Manager.
He was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church and Telephone Pioneers. He was an avid golfer and was the oldest member to golf in the telephone league.
Visitation: 9:30-10:30 am, Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church.
Funeral Service: 10:30 am, Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church with Reverend Dr. Wayne Hoffman and Pastor Joshua Traxel officiating.
Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church or Lutheran High School.
