Alvin R. Knuckey
Alvin R. Knuckey, 85, of Springfield, died at 11:08 p.m. Monday, January 2, 2012 at Memorial Medical Center. He was born on September 27, 1926 in Divernon, IL to James E. and Bessie McPhail Knuckey. He married Rosemary Ziller on September 13, 1952 and she preceded him in death on June 30, 2010. Also preceding him in death were his parents and one brother; Jim Knuckey.
Surviving are one son, Alan R. (Marla) Knuckey of Bloomington, two granddaughters; Alexandra Nicole and Morgan Leigh Knuckey, one sister; Loretta Bloome of Divernon and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was a member of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. Mr. Knuckey retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1989 after 35 years of service. He was a United States Army Veteran serving from 1950-1952 and was awarded a Purple Heart. Alvin was a member of the Korean War Veterans, American Postal Workers Union and Member of Sunset Club.
Visitation: 9-10 a.m. Thursday, January 5, 2012 at Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.
Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Thursday, January 5, 2012 at Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception with Reverend Steve Thompson officiating.
Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where Military Honors will be conducted.
