SPRINGFIELD – Alvin Krell, Jr., 81, of Springfield, IL died at home on Friday, September 3, 2010 at 5:50 pm. He was born November 20, 1928 in Springfield to Alvin and Bertha Sembell Krell, who preceded him in death. He married Marjorie Cook on January 14, 1962 and she survives. He is also survived by 3 daughters; Karen (husband: Patrick) Simmons of Herriman, UT, Susan (husband: Robert) Palyo of Los Angeles, CA, and Amy P. Krell of Africa; 2 granddaughters, Michelle Simmons and Easton Palyo; 1 brother, Carl W. (wife, Sherry Lu) Krell of Bettendorf, IA and several nieces and nephews.
Alvin was a graduate of Harvard Park Grade School, Springfield High School, Springfield Junior College in Illinois, and the University of Illinois. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. He was employed at Alvin Krell Co. and later at various companies as an engineer, including Fiat Allis, and his own company.
He was a lifelong Lutheran Christian and a devoted member of Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church. Alvin was also a member of the Automotive Engineers International and American Materials Society. He enjoyed working with his mind and hands and especially loved trains.
A visitation will be held from 5 ” 7 p.m. Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at Staab Funeral Home. There will be a lie in state from 9:30 ” 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 9, 2010 at Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church followed by a funeral service at 10:30 a.m. with Reverend Glen VanderKloot officiating. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
