Alice Marie Grider
Alice Marie Grider, of Cantrall, was born in DuQuoin, Illinois on December 5, 1920 to Mary Jane and Abijah Jacob Bahre. She was welcomed by her Lord on November 26, 2012, passing peacefully, surrounded by family. Alice worked for Sangamo Electric until its closing, and then finished her working career with the Illinois Department of Corrections.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charley Grider, in 2008; her brother William Bahre “Curly,” and her sister, Elizabeth Margraff “Bet.”
She is survived by her son, Dow Grider (wife Deborah Grider); granddaughters, Jamie Kirk (husband Anthony Kirk), and Corie Grider; great granddaughter, Averie Kirk; brother Carl Bahre (wife Dorothy); nieces, Debbie Thompson, Kathy Carnduff, Nancy Bahre, JoAnn Bradley and Jackie Troisi; nephews, Bill Bahre, Ronnie, Dennis and Rick Grider; along with great nieces and nephews.
Alice loved to flower garden and she turned her yard into a display that caught many an eye. She was steadfast in her loyalty to family and friends. She taught them the importance of nurturing the faith that was given as a gift from her Lord, Jesus Christ. She was a tremendously loyal and loving wife, mom, sister, grandmother, aunt and friend. She was a blessing to all that knew her.
Visitation: 10am – 12 noon, Thursday, November 29, 2012 at Staab Funeral Home. Funeral Service: 12 noon, Thursday, November 29, 2012 at Staab Funeral, with Rev. Thomas B. Christell, Jr. of Grace Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Grace Lutheran Church or Lutheran High School.
