James R. Creviston
James R. Creviston, 84, of Springfield died at 11:21 am, Friday, July 20, 2018 at St. John’s Hospital. He was born September 24, 1933 in Springfield to Page B. and Anna Rose (Smith) Creviston. He married Pat Schmitz on October 3, 1953.
He is survived by his wife, Pat; six daughters, Rita Bregenhorn of Springfield, Jean Schroeder of Spokane, WA, Paula (Ken) White of LaVernia, TX, Mary Brown of Auburn, Anita (Allan) Dean of Sweetwater and Pam Kufahl of Atlanta, GA; two sons, Jim (Rusty) Creviston of Mt. Sterling, IL and Mark (Terri) Creviston of Rochester; 17 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren and two on the way; two sisters, Sue Cousin and Dolores Creviston; three brothers, Dave Creviston and Steve and Jeff Rhodes and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, John, Russell, Don, Hersh and Mel Creviston; sister, Joyce Breeding and granddaughter, Tara Bregenhorn.
He was a member of Church of the Little Flower. He retired from the United States Army Guard after 43 years of service. Before entering the service he worked at Sangamo Construction as a labor foreman.
James was a former Silver Stepper and square dancer. He volunteered at Senior Services of Central Illinois. He was a member of the Laborers Local, DAV, VFW, American Legion and the Military Order of the Purple Heart.
Visitation: 4 – 7 pm, Thursday, July 26, 2018 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield. A prayer service will be held at 4 pm.
Funeral Mass: 10:30 am, Friday, July 27, 2018 at Church of the Little Flower with Reverend Allen Kemme officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Little Flower Church or School or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

I will always cherish the fact that Jim was my brother-in-law. He had such a zest & joy for life. I will never forget his laugh. He brought joy & fun to the whole family. I will always marvel at the legacy of his family that he leaves behind. Rest In Peace dear brother-in-law...Pat #2
